This value applies when there are multiple points at which optical characteristics can be measured, in the given direction, at an interface. It indicates whether the optical characteristics are measured before or after adjustment (e.g. optical amplification or attenuation). The codepoint 'notApplicable' should be used if no amplifier/attenuator exists at an interface.
